While I have always been a pretty active person and a relatively healthy eater, I constantly had gut issues that have affected my activities and life in general. In 2011, through an elimination diet, I found out I had a gluten sensitivity that was causing these gut issues as well as adult acne. From there my passion for nutrition and helping heal the gut started. In 2015, I was introduced to the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I knew I had finally found my calling as it just came easy to me and I wanted to keep learning more and more. Now I want to pass along my passion for nutrition to others and help them become healthier from the inside out. The health & wellness journey for me has been a long one, not always the easiest, and still not done, but it has been worth it.
In 9th grade I was diagnosed with an ulcer after having stomach issues (diarrhea within 30 minutes of eating and bloating). I had to take medications to heal the lining of my intestines for about a year after my diagnosis and although I felt a bit better, I never quite felt 100%. Since then I have always tried to take the natural, more holistic, route when an illness or injury has come up. I enjoy trying to research and get myself better without the use of any prescriptions. However, if I need to go to the doctor now, I make sure the doctor understands that I prefer a more natural route.
I recently had my first child at 38 years old. I wholeheartedly believe that my nutrition and activity kept me healthy during the pregnancy. I only gained 28 lbs during the 9 months and within 2 weeks after having my baby was back down to my pre pregnancy weight without starving myself or doing any activity besides a slow, short walk most days.
As for staying active in life after college volleyball; I enjoy working out at CrossFit, volleyball, hiking, biking, running - duathlons, 5k's, half marathons, Warrior Dash, Rampage at the Ridge, triathlons, marathon (one and done). I think an inline marathon or a Ragnar Race is next on my list.
All of my experience has lead me to start Synergy Within Wellness to assist others on their pregnancy and wellness journey whether that is nutrition, massage, exercise, or a combination. I am here to help and motivate the client wherever they are along their journey.
